Patrick Mahomes, le quarterback des Chiefs de Kansas City, est devenu aujourd'hui l'un des noms les plus reconnaissables du football. Son jeu impressionnant sur le terrain lui a valu de nombreux prix et distinctions, notamment celui d'être nommé MVP de la NFL en 2018 et de mener les Chiefs à une victoire au Super Bowl en 2020. Mais comment est-il arrivé là où il est aujourd'hui ? Jetons un coup d'œil à l'histoire de Patrick Mahomes. 
Petite enfance et carrière au lycée
Mahomes est né le 17 septembre 1995 à Tyler, au Texas. Son père, Pat Mahomes, était un joueur de la Ligue majeure de baseball et sa mère, Randi Mahomes, était une ancienne joueuse de basket-ball. En grandissant, Mahomes a pratiqué plusieurs sports, notamment le football, le basket-ball et le baseball.
Mahomes a fréquenté la Whitehouse High School à Whitehouse, au Texas, où il a excellé sur le terrain de football. Il était un athlète de deux sports, jouant à la fois au football et au baseball, et a été nommé MVP du district dans les deux sports au cours de sa dernière année. Malgré son succès, Mahomes n'a pas été fortement recruté par les écoles de Division I et n'a pas été classé parmi les meilleurs espoirs de quart-arrière du pays.
Carrière universitaire
Mahomes a choisi de jouer au football universitaire à la Texas Tech University. Il a disputé un total de 25 matchs au cours de ses trois saisons à Texas Tech, totalisant 11 252 verges et 93 touchés. Il a également établi plusieurs records scolaires, notamment le plus grand nombre de verges par la passe en un seul match et le plus grand nombre de passes de touché en une seule saison.
Malgré son impressionnante carrière universitaire, Mahomes ne devrait pas être un choix de premier plan lors du repêchage 2017 de la NFL. De nombreux dépisteurs ont remis en question sa capacité à s'adapter au jeu de la NFL et sa tendance à prendre des risques sur le terrain.
Carrière professionnelle
Mahomes a été sélectionné par les Chiefs de Kansas City avec le 10e choix au total lors du repêchage 2017 de la NFL. Il s'est assis derrière le quart partant Alex Smith pour sa saison recrue et n'a pas vu beaucoup de temps de jeu sur le terrain.
Cependant, tout a changé en 2018 lorsque Smith a été échangé aux Redskins de Washington et que Mahomes a été nommé quart-arrière partant des Chiefs. Il a connu une saison incroyable, totalisant 5 097 verges et 50 touchés, et a été nommé MVP de la NFL. Il a également mené les Chiefs au match de championnat de l'AFC, où ils ont perdu contre les Patriots de la Nouvelle-Angleterre.
En 2019, Mahomes et les Chiefs ont poursuivi leur succès, remportant le championnat de l'AFC et gagnant un voyage au Super Bowl. Lors du Super Bowl LIV, Mahomes a mené les Chiefs à une victoire par derrière contre les 49ers de San Francisco, ce qui lui a valu son premier championnat du Super Bowl et le prix MVP du Super Bowl.
Depuis lors, Mahomes a continué de s'imposer comme l'un des meilleurs quarts-arrière de la NFL. Il a battu plusieurs records et a été nommé dans plusieurs équipes du Pro Bowl. Grâce à son talent et à son dynamisme, Mahomes est en passe de devenir l'un des plus grands quarterbacks de tous les temps.
