Première vie et débuts :
Israel Adesanya est né le 22 juillet 1989 à Lagos, au Nigéria. Ayant grandi dans une famille de cinq frères et sœurs, il a découvert très tôt sa passion pour les arts martiaux. Adesanya a été fortement influencé par des films comme "Enter the Dragon" de Bruce Lee et a été captivé par la grâce, la puissance et la discipline manifestées par les artistes martiaux à l'écran. Déterminé à poursuivre ses rêves, il a commencé à s'entraîner au taekwondo et au kickboxing dès son adolescence.
Le talent et le dévouement d'Adesanya sont rapidement devenus évidents et il a commencé à accumuler un impressionnant record de kickboxing amateur. Cependant, réalisant qu'il avait besoin de perfectionner ses compétences, il a pris la décision qui a changé sa vie à l'âge de 21 ans de déménager en Nouvelle-Zélande, où il a rejoint le gymnase City Kickboxing à Auckland.

Les débuts d'Israel Adesanya à l'UFC contre Rob Wilkinson étaient une déclaration catégorique, car il a démontré son excellence frappante avec une victoire par TKO au deuxième tour. Cela marque le début d’une remarquable séquence de victoires qui le mènera vers de nouveaux sommets.
En avril 2019, Adesanya a affronté Kelvin Gastelum dans un classique instantané pour le championnat intérimaire des poids moyens de l'UFC.
