Jersey Framing - How to Do it Right and Protect Your Autograph

You just bought an autographed jersey of your favorite player.  Now what?  Got to get this coveted piece of sports memorabilia framed of course.  Here are 5 tips to help you protect your investment when getting your jersey framed.

#1 – Always have your jersey framed behind UV protective glass.  UV glass will not only help protect the signature from fading, but also protect the integrity of the jersey colors.   Also, be sure once you hang up your jersey, to have it hang on the side the sun comes into the room (to protect it from direct sunlight)

#2 – Use acid-free double matting.  Acid free matting will not fade or bleed.  Also, a double matte (meaning one layered on top of the other) adds a beautiful touch to make the framing more appealing.  You can also add a 2nd team color to the matte when using a double matte.   See below example.  Notice how the blue outer and yellow inner matte really bring out the colors of the jersey?

#3 – Choose a quality molding.  Yes, a plastic frame will work just fine.  But a nice upgrade to a mahogany frame (see below) will really make a jersey pop, such as a San Francisco 49ers.

#4 – Don’t go overboard with loading the frame with 2 photos, pins, an autographed photo, a plaque, etc..  It just takes away from the jersey.  Adding one 8×10 photo or a nice plaque will certainly add to the frame, not take away from it.  See below Joe Montana examples.  One with the tickets, very classy, symmetrical.  2nd Montana jersey, too much stuff, and not well organized.

#5 – Make sure to have your jersey pinned to the back matte, not glued.  This will protect the integrity of the jersey in case you ever want to take it out of the frame.
