Zion Williamson's Autograph Market

Zion Williamson is one of the biggest names in college basketball this year.  280 pounds and moves like a point guard.  Projected #1 overall draft pick.  Potentially going to the New York Knicks since they ended up with the worst record in the NBA.

So, where do I see Zion’s market going?  Up and up and up.

Let’s start off by taking a look back 2 years ago.  Remember when Ben Simmons came out of LSU?  Big name, but not nearly as big as Zion.  His stuff lists for $500 for balls.  $800 for jerseys.  Zion is going to be above that.

How much?  Time will tell.  Depends on who he signs with and who drafts him.

If he goes to the Knicks you are going to have essentially 4 companies going after him which is going to increase the price to sign Zion to an exclusive autograph deal.  Thus, all of those guys are going to have to charge A LOT to make money on Zion.  Potentially could see a $700 ball and $1000 jersey.  Say what???

Now, with that being said.  Is Zion a good autograph to pick up once he does sign his deal?  Going to be a good player enough to hold that value? 

Yes and no 😊.  No because who in the NBA is really worth that kind of money right now?  LeBron?  And even he has fallen off a bit.

Zion does have some holes in his game, mainly his shooting.  But the guy has that “IT” factor when it comes to basketball IQ.  Very similar feel for the game that LeBron has.  Remember, LeBron couldn’t shoot all that well when he came into the league either (some will say he still can't).

Zion has the talent to be a Top 15 NBA player.  But at these autograph prices it is going to be tough to stomach it.  If you are a Knicks fan and he goes to your favorite team, maybe,  But for the average fan it might be a tough pill to swallow.
