Is BROCK PURDY Worth all the Hype? He is if he does this 1 thing

Brock Purdy was the last pick of the 2022 draft, A.K.A. "Mr. Irrelevant."  If you've been paying any attention to the news in regards to the NFL playoffs, then you know that Purdy has become possibly the most relevant player in the entire NFL. From being just another 3rd string QB, to the guy leading his team to 5 straight victories.  You can't blame collectors for starting to take notice of this rookie QB.  Today we will discuss 3 topics.

  1. Why is Purdy so popular right now?
  2. Why does he make collecting fun?
  3. Is he a good buy right now?

Why is Purdy so popular?

Purdy currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers, a team with a history of a solid Quarterbacks, such as Joe Montana and Steve Young.  Interestingly, the 49ers haven't won a Super Bowl since 1995.

You've got a team with a great history, an absolutely amazing fan base, and a team poised to make a Super Bow run,  That puts Purdy in the center of the spotlight of what could happen this season. Brock Purdy winning the Super Bowl at this moment in time in his career, would be almost as big a deal if Joe Burrow won the Super Bowl for the Bengals. It's that big. It's no wonder he has been skyrocketing in popularity.

Additionally, when it comes to the successes and failures of a team, these are often attributed to the QB.  That's a pretty big deal when the "irrelevant" rookie, is suddenly the reason the 49ers are so hot going towards the Super Bowl. The term "Mr. Irrelevant" is not meant to bash on Purdy, but a unique identifier of his story. There are signed jerseys out there with that name on the back.

Lastly, when it comes to popularity and spotlight in the media these days, the public and fans love a good underdog. Some of the best stories out there involve someone that has had to fight to be the best despite huge odds against them. Fans just love those storylines, and for the 49ers right now, that story is literally unfolding in front of their eyes.

Why does Purdy make collecting fun and exciting?

With his recent successes and the spotlight being all over him, Purdy is probably firmly in the top 5 most popular players right now. That puts him in the same ring as guys such as Mahomes, Burrow, Brady and Allen. Why wouldn't people be excited to be able to add a guy like that to their collections at this time?

Also, it has to be considered that before recently, Purdy just wasn't a big name that people thought of. Up until now, there hasn't been a lot of eyes on him, and thus not a lot of merchandise or memorabilia either. Nobody had his items and nobody wanted his items either. Suddenly, he is one of the most collected names on the market, and that means collectors have to scramble to find whatever items they can for Purdy now before someone else buys it.

That "Mr. Irrelevant" status Purdy use to have also makes him a bit of a mystery to both fans and collectors alike. Nobody really knows what this guy can do long term. That means a ton of speculation. Will he win the Super Bowl? Will he become the long term starting QB for the 49ers?  Who knows!? Th unknown definitely makes collecting fun.

Even if he doesn't win the Super Bowl, is he a good buy right now?

The short answer is no. Currently, a Purdy mini helmet is going for $250 +. That is pretty expensive, especially for a guy who is just starting to pick up the spotlight. For comparison, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is selling for $200,

However, if you're really becoming a big fan of Purdy right now, I still don't think that is an insane price. It's a bit up there, but I can see it being worth it for some collectors. Additionally, Purdy could now go on in the future to continue to grow and become even better.  Those potential stat increases in the future could easily prove to be worth dividends down the road.

Lastly, since the Super Bowl hasn't arrived yet, $250 for a mini helmet could result in a nice little hedge should they win the Super Bowl.  Of course, who can say at this point, anything could happen, but these are definitely some things to keep in mind.
