Since Powers Sports Memorabilia is located in the Kansas City metro area, autographed Kansas Jayhawks memorabilia is one of our most popular selling items. We wondered why is Kansas sports memorabilia so cool to collect? Here are 6 reasons why. Feel free to add more to the comments below.
1.) Winning Tradition - They have won 3 NCAA titles and appeared in over 40 NCAA tournaments. Consistently winning is the best way to build your fan base.
2.) Great Coaches - James Naismith, the founder of the original rules of basketball, was Kansas’ 1st coach. Ironically, he is the only coach in Kansas history to have a losing record (55-60). Other great KU coaches are Larry Brown, Roy Williams, and the current coach Bill Self. Adolf Rupp, Kentucky’s greatest coach, was once a player at KU.
3.) Historical Importance to the Game of Basketball - Naismith wrote the original rules of basketball. Kansas is 2nd all-time in NCAA wins and 3rd in all-time winning percentage.
4.) Great Players - Ultimately, when collecting sports memorabilia autographs, you collect the player you love and the moments you remember. Mario Chalmers, Wilt Chamberlain, Nick Collison, Drew Gooden, Kirk Hinrich, Raef LaFrentz, Danny Manning, Paul Pierce, and Thomas Robinson are some of the Kansas greats to name a few. Many of them went on to steller NBA careers, with Chamberlain, Pierce and Chalmers winning NBA titles. Chamberlain became one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players, if not the greatest of all time. Pierce is a future NBA Hall of Fame inductee and Chalmers has won 2 NBA titles with the Miami Heat. Kansas basketball leads the NCAA with 28 consensus First Team All-American selections, 21 different players have received the honor. 17 former players or coaches are also in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
5.) Great Items to Collect - Kansas has some of the best looking jerseys out there, with their blue and crimson colors.
Also, one of the greatest moments in college basketball history was Mario Chalmers game tying 3 pointer in the 2008 NCAA title game vs. Memphis. We have that photo autographed.
6.) Location and Pride - Lawrence is about 45 minutes west of Kansas City. It has been a long time since the Chiefs or the Royals have come close to winning any Super Bowls or World Series titles. KU basketball is the adopted professional team for KC. They are the 1 team that consistently puts a great product on the floor that not only KU alums can be proud of but also the people of Kansas City. When KU plays at the Sprint Center in downtown KC, the stadium is packed and filled with KU fans.
