Top 5 Current MLB Players Autographs Going up in Value in 2017
June 10, 20173 min read
2016 was a great year for sports memorabilia baseball autographs. We saw the rise of Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, plus the massive sales of the Cubs World Series win and David Ortiz due to his retirement. 2017 sets up to be a great year with the Chicago Cubs coming off that World Series title (can’t believe I am still saying that). So who are my Top 5 current MLB players autographs going up in value in 2017?
#5 Mookie Betts (Boston Red Sox) – A 2016 All-Star selection, he had a .318 avg, 31 HR, 113 RBI, and he is only 24 years old! Yes, David Ortiz is gone so quality of pitches he sees may go down. However, I like the fact that he plays in the Boston market and does very few signings.
#4 Anthony Rizzo(Chicago Cubs) – Star 1st baseman for the Cubs, tough guy to get an autograph from at the ballpark. 3 x All-Star and of course a 2016 World Series champion. One of the more popular Cubs players and autographs to collect. Only 27 years old. Does a few signings a year and autograph price is very consistent. Should he and the Cubs have a year like 2016, expect that price to rise.
#3 Jake Arrieta(Chicago Cubs) – One of the very few Cubs players who did not do an autograph signing right after the World Series. His memorabilia is scarce. A 2015 NL CY Young Winner, he’s thrown 2 No Hitters, and was a 2016 All-Star. Cubs memorabilia is HOT right now and a HUGE market. Once he does a signing, price of his autograph will go way up due to his reluctance to do many of them. One of the last guys many collectors need for 2016 team-signed items.
#2 Corey Seager (Los Angeles Dodgers) – 2016 NL Rookie of the Year and All-Star selection. Just 22 years old! Plays in a HUGE market in Los Angeles with a team that made the 2016 playoffs. Does quite a few signings. His young age and a sky’s the limit type talent make him a solid 2017 pick to go up in value.
#1 Kris Bryant(Chicago Cubs) -What is not to like about Kris Bryant? Coming off an MVP year, 24 years old, 2 x All Star, 2015 NL Rookie of the Year, oh yeah, he won the 2016 World Series title with the Cubs. So you may think, wow, autograph price can’t go any higher right? Wrong. Because he is under exclusive autograph contract, the price at the very worst is going to stay the same due to minimum payments he will get per the contract. However, he plays in a baseball crazy Chicago, fans are in love with Bryant, and did I mention he won the 2016 World Series title? Guy will never have to buy a meal in Chicago ever again. Definitely has room to improve and he plays on a team loaded with talent. So he is going to see his share of good pitches. Much like Rizzo, if he has a year like 2016, autograph price is only going to increase.
